Michal, a Bergen County resident for nine years, transitioned from an award-winning cyber technology expert to fulfilling her lifelong passion for education. As a teacher and education entrepreneur, she established the Acton Academy of Bergen County (AABC) five years ago. Initially starting with 13 students, the school has steadily grown to accommodate 70 students, spanning kindergarten to middle school. AABC distinguishes itself by prioritizing practical, real-life skills through hands-on projects and meaningful connections with the community. Michal and the school actively engage with Closter and its surroundings, participating in volunteer work at places like the MacBain community farm, the public library, the Belskie art museum, and Farrell Woods. Students benefit from community members sharing their “Hero’s Journey,” and the middle school curriculum emphasizes hands-on experience through local business apprenticeships. AABC annually hosts the renowned “Children’s Business Fair,” providing local youth with a platform to delve into entrepreneurship, fostering creativity and excitement. Since its inception, the fair has become a staple event, enriching the community and empowering young individuals to create their own distinctive businesses.
